Vancouver - The 2001 Vancouver Hastings Green Party Candidate intends
to run again in the 2005 election.
Ian Gregson who gained 15% of the vote in 2001 will go through the
nomination process to run in Vancouver Hastings.
"Over the last 3 years I have diversified my areas of expertise; I
have worked hard as Vice President of my union local at SFU; on the
stopwar.ca coalition, the SFU NoSweat task force and specifically the
website at 2010watch.com the only autonomous watchdog for the 2010
Olympics".
Gregson, who is a former Vice President of CUPE 3338 [SFU] faces an
interesting situation with his union who traditionally support only
NDP candidates. Barry O'Niell has openly stated CUPE BC will support
any trade unionist who runs in 2005, "I will be holding Mr O'Niell to
his word".
Gregson is a two time Paralympic athlete and sports writer who did
not support the 2010 bid. "Whilst I liked the idea of Vancouver
hosting the games, once I began to look at the fine print and the
lack of public accountability I had to vote no. I am now dedicated to
providing the public with much of the information the provincial
government does not."
Gregson is currently working hard on the federal election and is
financial agent for Vancouver East candidate Ron Plowright.
"I was very tempted to run in the federal election, however some
careful consideration I decided to keep focused on the BC election in
2005" said Gregson from his home in East Vancouver.
The BC Green Party have polled consistently over their record
breaking 12.8% 2001 election result in the last three years.
