Whats the neighbourhood like?

I'm moving back to the drive. I have been on Vancover Island since 96 and I have heard and read that there is alot more crime etc in the area. I am hoping it's not true but would appreciate input from people in the neighbourhood. Should I worry about walking alone along the drive at night or is it alot of hype?
