I bought an IKEA bed (box spring and mattress and bed frame) last year for use as a guest bed. It's not bad but I wouldn't recommend it for longevity. As a guest bed, it's fine and will probably last a few years. If I were sleeping in it all the time, however, I don't think it would last more than 5 years. I got the medium firmness and have been finding that it's showing the slightest beginnings of sagging when there's consistent weight on it (i.e., sleeping on it night after night which i've been doing for the past 3 mos because I can't use my other bed for now). But then, if you've got a coupon to get a free bed, then go for it. PS - yes, IKEA beds are definitely better than a futon.
