I was speaking to the proprietor of the older established grocery store, and he says that most of the businesses on the Drive understand that people shop at more than 1 place, depending on what they need, and they each appeal to a different part of the market. The new place researched what was being carried by the old place and copied them & tried to undersell them, which he admitted is kind of against the existing "code" on the Drive.
But, then he added that he doesn't mind a challenge, and that he will work very hard to keep his customers happy in spite of the new place trying to lure people away. He has lowered his prices, too, and he is being very good-natured about it all. He didn't say one single negative thing about the new place, I was the one who noticed what they were doing. He would only say that he welcomes hard work and is fine with it. Great guy. Good energy!
Hint: the old place is at Commercial & 6th.
