GREEN PARTY CANDIDATE NOMINATED FOR SFU STERLING PRIZE
Green Party candidate Ian Gregson has been nominated for the 2005 Simon Fraser University Sterling Prize for controversy.
Gregson's work on the online resource 2010watch.com has garnered support and praise from numerous activists including Phil LeGood, Rosalin Sams of the Lil'Wat Nation and Dr Chris Shaw of UBC.
Started shortly after the 2003 Vancouver referendum on the Olympics, the site provides up to date news items and opinion on the 2010 Olympics and the controversy they create. Recent controversies include the plan to re-direct the freeway over Eagle Ridge Bluffs in West Vancouver and a recent small claims court case over the use of the number "2010".
In 1998 Ian Gregson published his first book "Irresistible Force - Disability Sport in Canada", a candid look at the history of Canadian athletes with disabilities over the last fifty years.
Dr. Chris Shaw states, Ian's book "Irresistible Force" is a perfect example of Ian's honesty and objectivity in dealing with controversial issues. The web site at 2010watch.com is the result of Ian's hard work, dedication and skill. Ian's desire for alternative perspectives on widely held views is at the core of his motivation. He believes that without such web sites people cannot make educated choices about the companies and products they purchase, the politicians they vote for and the events that they attend.
Nora and Ted Sterling established the prize at SFU in 1993 to honor "work which challenges complacency and that provokes controversy or contributes to its understanding."
Ian Gregson is running as the Green Party candidate in Vancouver Hastings. In 2001 Ian received 15% of the votes cast.
