Internet Job Search Techniques

A successful online job search requires more than one type of resume. Having the following types of resumes ready is a good start.

ASCII text-only file

The ASCII resume file is used for submitting to job-related Web sites, and to cut-and-paste into emails. This is the most effective means of applying for those jobs posted on the web. ASCII text files are just the bare bones text of your resume. No special fonts or attributes here. You can create a text file either by using "SAVE AS" in your word processor and then choosing "ASCII" .txt file format, or you can use the Notepad program that comes with WINDOWS. This is a very simple word processing program that only saves in the pure text format.

Word-processor document

A word-processor document can be printed, stored in an online database, or sent as an email attachment. Sending attatchments in an email is not recommended , this should only be done if requested by the employer. Word processor documents are created in a word processing program such as MICROSOFT WORD or COREL WORDPERFECT. This type of format allows many options as far as fonts and special attributes. Great for snail mail or faxing your resume.
